Eligibility
"Open to emerging scholars with significant knowledge and experience in the study of Canadian art, broadly defined to encompass historical, contemporary, Indigenous, and/or diasporic art practices in Canada. To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must have completed their PhDs (in art history or a closely related discipline) within the past 7 years. They should also have a body of research that can be written up into a 30,000 to 40,000-word manuscript over the course of 12 months." No Canadian citizenship or residency restriction is stated on the funder's fellowship or application pages; the program is about Canadian art as subject matter, not restricted to applicants living in Canada.
What to send
Application Materials: completed application form; CV; a Manuscript Proposal (3,500-word proposal: working title/series, 200-250 word abstract, 2,000-2,500 word chapter overview covering roughly 10 key artworks/artists, and a 500-word discussion of significance); 4 Short Essay Questions (300 words each, on interest in the opportunity, research methodology, ethical considerations, and a 12-month completion plan); and, for projects engaging a living artist's work, written consent from that artist. The fellowship includes a publishing contract with ACI to produce an online art book, mentorship, dedicated editorial support, and opportunities to present the project to ACI's community.
